Topic/Area of research: Material Culture and Indigenous Knowledge for Sustainable Development

Affiliation: Kyambogo University, Uganda

Biography: Dr. Emmanuel Mutungi is a Lecturer in Vocational Studies at Kyambogo University, Uganda. He is the Head of Department Industrial Art and Design and teaches graduate students. He is a Committee member of Network of African Designers, and a member of Academy of Management. His research interests are in Material Culture and Indigenous Knowledge. He believes that sustainable development can be achieved by utilizing local resources, knowledge and skills available in the community before applying those that communities do not have access to or control. He has carried out several community projects in areas of health, governance and education using art as tool, and written articles and book chapters in field of cultural entrepreneurship. He is a doctoral student of Anthropology.
